Gotta Have Graphs

We just finished our unit on graphing! We had a lot of fun learning about bar graphs, Venn Diagrams, pictographs, charts and tables.

First, we learned how to create, organize, and display information in a bar graph. We worked in collaborative pairs to record data that we gathered.

Then we made a human graph. We learned that changing a graph's scale from 1 to 2 can change the length of the bars.

Our learning task was the best part! We had to pretend to be a data collector for a new juice company. We had to gather data from the customers to find out which flavor was their favorite. Then we needed to report the data to the new company by creating a bar graph and interpreting the information.

...but some of the juice was really strong and yucky! I guess cranberry juice is an acquired taste:)

Next, we learned about Venn Diagrams. We compared the number of siblings in our family...

We compared the attributes of shapes...

...and at times, we got so carried away that we started comparing ourselves.

For our culminating activity, we each got a bag of fruit loops and recorded the number of each color in a tally table. Then we had to create a pictograph and bar graph with the information. We surveyed the class to find out which was our favorite color fruit loop (green or red) and recorded the data in a Venn Diagram.

And of course Mrs. Cooper let us eat our data when we finished:)
