Blends Song

We have been busy reviewing the sounds that blends make. In this video, we are working on the blend /bl/. We came up with several examples of words that start with /bl/. The students were still rocky on the words, so please ignore my awful singing in the background:)

First Day of School

 We had a great first day of school in 2nd grade! Here is our first class photo!

We learned how to stand in a 3 "S" line (straight, single file, silent). We did an awesome job learning all of the rules and procedures in Mrs. Cooper's class. We are going to have a great year!

Tour de Classroom

 All of Bill Arp's classrooms have had Promethean boards installed! What an exciting and useful tool for teaching and learning.

 Desk and Calendar Area

 This is our Calendar Math Board. We use the Calendar Math program, "Every Day Counts." We work on a variety of math skills during calendar everyday.

 Our "Chirpin' Chores" tree is where we display the class helpers. We need all students to pitch in and work together to keep a safe and clean classroom environment.

 The back of my closet door is used for our behavior management system, our weekly schedule, and lunch choices.

 This was the gift I gave my new students at open house. I am so excited to get the year started!

 This display is for our school wide reading program, "Wild About Reading." Students will move to each "destination" based on the number of books they read. Each destination has a reward that the students earn. They really enjoy this program!

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!

We had a wonderful first day of school! Our class took a tour around the building and snapped a few first day pics. I know we are going to have a fabulous school year!

Welcome Back!

I am so excited about a new school year in 2nd grade! I look forward to working with your child and watching them grow throughout the year!

Below is our word wall. We will be adding sight words to the wall to help with our reading and spelling. These will be words that are commonly used in our reading and writing.

The reading program at our school is "Reading Round-Up!" This program offers motivation and incentives for reading at the elementary level. Students will earn rewards for every 20 books they read. They will move their horse to each barn as they progress through the destinations. More information will be sent home about this wonderful program at a later date.

One of the first decisions a child makes when they enter my room is what they want to eat for lunch. Don't forget to keep your child's account current.

This is our Chirpin' Chores Tree. These classroom jobs are extremely important in our classroom because they build teamwork. We will learn during the first week of school how each job is important and necessary to help our day run smoothly.

We will be working on reviewing math skills each day during Calendar Math. Every day counts!

Mountain Math is a program that also reviews math skills. The cards will rotate throughout the year and students will build on what they have already learned.

These book boxes are provided to allow students to hold a book that they are reading, whether they are checked out from the library or from our classroom library. This also provides a nice space for our S.Q.U.I.R.T. folders that go along with the school-wide reading program.
