First Week

We had a fabulous first (full) week of school. We have been working on procedures and rules. Everyone is working hard to get used to a new schedule and new classmates. Last week we also did lots of testing. Students were given a pretest for math, reading, and writing. We started our regular Language Arts centers this week and we are still adjusting to those procedures. I look forward to getting to know all of the students in my class this year. Below are some pictures of our classroom...

We do calendar math every morning. This is when we review math skills such as time, money, problem solving, counting, place value, etc.

This year our reading program is "Fire Up Your Imagination with a Great Book." Students will record the number of books they read and complete an activity for each. When they read a certain amount of books, they will move to the next destination. We will have celebrations or rewards given out for each destination that the students reach.

Students will be responsible for knowing and understanding what they are learning. We discuss the Georgia Performance Standards every day. Students should be able to use the language of these standards. This is where I get all of the key vocabulary and essential questions for my lessons. Here is a view of our standards board. This is where I write the standards and essential questions for each subject. Students analyze the standard by picking out what they should "know" and be able to "do."

I am looking forward to another great week!
